Food

Nanomaterials and nanotechnology have the potential to bring many benefits to the food sector. They can be used to create lighter, stronger and more durable packaging, helping us to keep our food fresh for longer and reduce waste. Nanomaterials can also be used to enhance the taste, the flavour and the availability of nutrients in the food we eat.

With the increased use of nanomaterials and nanotechnology in the food industry, what are the main benefits and are there reasons to be concerned? Have a look at the work already done by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), which has published an opinion and guidance for the risk assessment of nanotechnologies in the food and feed chain.
