Hydrogen

Energy - Hydrogen - About The Sector

Hydrogen is a carrier of atomic energy used in fuel cells that transforms chemical energy into electricity. Currently, hydrogen-run fuel cells are considered a high-potential environmentally friendly technology. There are various applications of nanotechnology in hydrogen energy. For instance, titanium-coated nanotubes are used in hydrogen tanks. Nanotechnology helps to solve the issue of the efficient storage of large volumes of hydrogen fuel. Nanoblades are used for hydrogen fuel storage, and the possibility of storing hydrogen fuel inside nanomaterials, such as carbon nanofibers or carbon nanotubes has been explored. Carbon nanotubes are used for collecting hydrogen gas that is also considered a sustainable source of energy (e.g., it is used in space vehicles). Nanotechnology applications also include cost-efficient and clean production of hydrogen gas from solar energy through photocatalysis1.
